Discrimination towards men or women.

In the play Antigone, religion is shown with the struggle between her and her uncle Creon. They both believe in the idea of polytheistic religion, but their opinions are different based on the amount of influence the gods should have on everyday society. In the play Antigone, Antigone goes against the beliefs and defies the tradition of male discrimination. Antigone opposes Creon’s law and buries her brother, because she believed it was immortal not to. She does this because she loves her brother, but when Creon finds out what she does, he is very upset.

 In the movie Whale Rider, Koro is heavily into the Maori     culture, he is determined to find a new leader. He takes his role in society very seriously. He was a great warrior and knew everything it took to be a leader very well. He believed women/girls are not equal to men/boys, that men’s/boys have domination over women. In the beginning when Paikea is born, Koro is angry and wished that she was dead and that her twin brother were the one who was alive. Also, Koro makes a school to teach the guys all the things to be a leader and Paikea wishes to join, but Koro does not accept. So from far, even though Paikea knows how Koro would react or feel about her doing so, she practices all of what they do. One day as Paikea is practicing,  Koro catches her and gets very angry at her.

Reflection on website

Doing my website with the group was fun, but it was also complicated. We didn't communicate much. But other then that we made a great team. Putting the website together was rather quite easy. I would like to do more things based on technology because it expands my knowledge on computers and how to work them.

Research Reflection Paper

This paper on Libya was sort of complicated because of the fact it was hard to find information o my topic (violence and current events), you would accept it to be very straight forward because it is occurring right now, but it wasn’t. I think that my group did well on find information and bookmarking them to Diigo. The websites on there were useful. But, I think that we could have talked more about it together and found the main focuses, so that we were all on the same page. I think that individually I did the essay pretty well by changing words into my own and summarize current events that have happened. But, I could have improved by getting more information that was less hard to understand. But overall, I feel that my group and I did a thorough job on our research paper. It was very useful to use Diigo with our summarized websites http://groups.diigo.com/group/libyasyjd01.

Summaries of Tunisia, Egypt, & Libya.

In Tunisia, their ruler, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has been  forced to departure into exile after street protests sparked by joblessness, poverty and corruption. There has been reporting a lot of killings and acts of brutality by Tunisian security forces. They have been shooting bystanders and protesters who did not do anything to them to threat their lives. As the days go by, more and more victims are killed by the security forces. It is referred to as the "Jasmine Revolution." “The security forces acted with reckless disregard for human life in all too many cases,” said Malcolm Smart, Director of Amnesty. The revolt has led into a violent crackdown.

In Egypt,  they are going through one of the "most volatile moments of its history." The people have to face their president Hosni Mubarak insecurity reigns. There has been protesting on their governments, high levels of corruption, and poverty. The protesters demand that that he responds to the establishment of a minimum wage, dissolving a parliament that many here view as fraudulently elected, and lifting the country's draconian emergency laws. There has been 50,000 protesters hoping that Mubarak will liberate.

. In Libya, there is a lot of children suffering of anemia because of the unemployment rate. Corruption is rampant and dissidents are brutally suppressed. There president Gadaffi is not on. There side andid is not protecting them. Also currently there is a no fly-zone.

Marriage Is a Private Affair

In “Marriage Is a Private Affair” by Chinua Achebe, this boy named Nnaemeka who was born in Lagos is in love and engaged to a girl named Nene. In Lagos if you father is still alive when your at the right age for marriage he arranges your marriage with a girl who has good character and a Christian background. Nnaemeka’s father has already found a girl for him to marry, so he does not tell his father about him and Nene. But Nene wants him to write to his father and tell him about the situation. Nnaemeka does not believe it would be a great idea to share that information with him so he goes to see his father and talks to him. Nnaemeka tells his father about Nene and how she has a Christian background and is a very nice person, but his father does not accept. Nnaemeka’s father  says to him that “It is Satan’s work,” he does not believe it is right at all. But Nnarmeka still marries Nene and they have two children. His father does not have any part of there life because to he wishes he had nothing to do with Nene or even his son because of the “mistake” he commited by marrying her.
A story similar is that my aunt does not like my cousins boyfriend because of how is and the choices he makes, but she is still with him. They have a baby together and live together even though my aunt did not approve of it.

No Witchcraft for Sale Blogg

I think it is amazing how Gideon knew how to heal Teddy's eye. But in a way, I feel that he did not have to give his secrets to the doctor because it was kind of like his thing to be able to say he saved somebody by healing them. But I do think it would have been a very generous thing to do by showing them the root so that there would be a cure for everybody.
