In the play Antigone, religion is shown with the struggle between her and her uncle Creon. They both believe in the idea of polytheistic religion, but their opinions are different based on the amount of influence the gods should have on everyday society. In the play Antigone, Antigone goes against the beliefs and defies the tradition of male discrimination. Antigone opposes Creon’s law and buries her brother, because she believed it was immortal not to. She does this because she loves her brother, but when Creon finds out what she does, he is very upset.
In the movie Whale Rider, Koro is heavily into the Maori culture, he is determined to find a new leader. He takes his role in society very seriously. He was a great warrior and knew everything it took to be a leader very well. He believed women/girls are not equal to men/boys, that men’s/boys have domination over women. In the beginning when Paikea is born, Koro is angry and wished that she was dead and that her twin brother were the one who was alive. Also, Koro makes a school to teach the guys all the things to be a leader and Paikea wishes to join, but Koro does not accept. So from far, even though Paikea knows how Koro would react or feel about her doing so, she practices all of what they do. One day as Paikea is practicing, Koro catches her and gets very angry at her.
